The History
Founding and Early Years
MAIC Amici Agri-Business Company Ltd (MAA) has grown from a vision to empower Ugandan farmers into a key player in the coffee and cocoa value chain. Rooted in addressing real challenges like low incomes and environmental degradation, our journey reflects commitment to sustainability and community impact.
Established in Kasana town, Luweero District, along the Kampala-Gulu highway, MAA was founded to tackle issues faced by smallholder farmers, including price volatility and middlemen exploitation. Drawing from Uganda’s rich agricultural heritage—where coffee accounts for over 20% of exports (FAO, 2023)—we began with direct fair-trade contracts and processing facilities.
Growth and Milestones
- 2025-2026: Launched with a five-year plan (2026-2030), focusing on organic production and market expansion.
- Key Partnerships: Collaborations with UCDA, Fairtrade International, and advisors like Grant Hellwarth for mentorship.
- Environmental Focus: Adopted agroforestry to counter Uganda’s 26% forest loss (1990-2005, FAO, 2023), ensuring long-term ecosystem health.
- Current Status: Processing premium Robusta, Arabica, Kisansa coffee, and cocoa, with projections for 20% CAGR in revenue.
From humble origins to international aspirations, MAA continues to evolve, prioritizing traceability, quality, and farmer livelihoods.
We combat environmental degradation—Uganda lost 26% of forest cover from 1990-2005 (FAO, 2023)—through agroforestry and organic practices, enhancing quality and appealing to sustainability-focused consumers. Organic coffee fetches up to 30% higher prices (Fairtrade International, 2023).

Our Mission
To produce and supply premium Ugandan coffee and cocoa through efficient processing, quality control, and reliable service for local and global markets.
Our Story
Founded to address challenges like price volatility, middlemen exploitation, and low farmer incomes, MAA establishes direct fair-trade contracts and a state-of-the-art processing plant. This ensures better prices for farmers and traceable, premium organic products for buyers. Uganda’s coffee sector, Africa’s largest exporter, contributes over 20% to national exports (FAO, 2023), while cocoa grows amid global demand for ethical sourcing.

Environmental Practices
At MAIC Amici Agri-Business Company Ltd, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We commit to environmental protection, farmer empowerment, and community development, ensuring our coffee and cocoa production benefits people and the planet for generations.
Major Environmental Impacts
- Deforestation & Habitat Loss: Clearing tropical forests for large, sun-grown monoculture plantations destroys rich ecosystems and reduces carbon storage.
- Water Pollution & Scarcity: Traditional wet-processing methods use up to 140 liters of water per cup. Wastewater mixed with fruit pulp often flows into local rivers and damages aquatic life.
Impact to our practices
We address Uganda’s environmental challenges, such as 26% forest loss (1990-2005, FAO, 2023), through organic farming and agroforestry. These methods maintain soil health, biodiversity, and reduce risks of depletion by 2050 (NEMA, 2008). Our products comply with international standards, fetching up to 30% higher prices (Fairtrade International, 2023).
Farmer and Community Impact
- Farmer Empowerment: Direct fair-trade contracts provide better prices and training for over to: e.g., projected farmers].
- Community Development: Initiatives enhance food security and rural livelihoods, aligning with ILO and World Bank guidelines.
- Economic Sustainability: Aiming for financial growth while supporting smallholders against market volatility.
Our efforts contribute to Uganda’s economy, where coffee and cocoa drive exports and jobs.
